ZIMBABWE Our tour starts in Harare, early in the morning and takes us on a one-and-a-half hour flight north over Mana Pools and up the Zambezi River at low level. On this game flight we are likely to see elephant, buffalo and hippo bathing in the river. On the way to our camp on the shores of Lake Kariba we will fly over the famous Kariba Dam and make a low-level approach into the camp airstrip. Here we stay in a luxurious lakeside camp. Chalets overlook the Lake and we can choose from a variety of activities such as lake safaris, fishing trips, game walks, game and night drives.

An hour's scenic flight along the 300km lake and up the Zambezi gorge towards Victoria Falls has us overhead the waterfall for the awesome sight that Livingstone on his first sighting commented "on sights as beautiful as these angels in their flight must have gazed." There is much on offer in Victoria Falls town for the adrenaline traveler - whitewater rafting, boogie boarding, whitewater kayaking, Bungi jumping, skydiving and microlighting. Other activities include scenic cruises, upriver canoeing, horseback riding and elephant back safaris. An excellent optional excursion is a day trip into Botswana's Chobe National Park which offers sightings of huge herds of Elephant. Lion is also prevalent in this area.

BOTSWANA Our next stop is the Okavango Delta, Botswana's jewel in the crown, and this is truly an experience to behold. This huge flood plain in the middle of the Kalahari Desert is a haven for bird and wildlife. Gliding through the Delta in our mekorro, a dugout canoe hewn from the trunk of a massive tree, we are gently punted through the reeds where we will see an abundance of birdlife. Early morning and late afternoon game walks may yield exciting encounters with elephant, buffalo, giraffe and a large range of the antelope family. The tranquillity of the Delta is an integral part of the experience with sunsets and palm studded skylines. Here we stay at the famous Oddballs Camp.

NAMIBIA En route into Namibia we make a low level scenic flight over the Delta, picking out elephant and buffalo, and then across this deserted hinterland via Grootfontein to the Etosha Pan. Once a massive lake whose watercourse was redirected by uplifting of the earth's crust several million years ago leaving behind a huge salt pan some 150km long. We fly into the government rest camp airstrip at Okaukuejo overflying the camp and famous floodlit waterhole. At night, almost all of Africa's creatures can be seen at the Okaukuejo waterhole. Elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, giraffe, jackal and hyena, not to mention most of the antelope family, have all been seen on one evening - we just have to be lucky. Around the pan are sprinkled numerous waterholes and we will take a drive by safari vehicle in search of game.

A half hours scenic flight from the Etosha Pan takes us to Finger Rock, a towering 35 metre column of rock nestling beneath terraces of eroded limestone. Here we visit the busman paintings and enjoy this beautiful desert scene.

Swakopmund is an interesting town to explore with its Germanic architecture, quaint coffee shops and beer-kellers. For the adrenaline-minded there is plenty to keep your senses tingling - quad-biking, sand boarding, microlighting and ocean fishing. For others there is a desert tour or drive to the seal colonies or flamingos further along the Skeleton Coast.

Once every 17 years the Tsauchab River floods and flows through the Sesriem Canyon in the Namib-Naukluft park towards the ocean. Blocked by the giant sand dunes, which move in from the southwest, the river finally reaches Sossusvlei forming a small oasis amongst the sand dunes. We fly down the Skeleton Coast and overhead Sossusvlei where we will spend the day exploring the sand dunes and learning about this extraordinary place.

The Fish River Canyon was formed many millions of years ago by a combination of the uplifting of the earth's crust, glacial erosion and the water erosion of the Fish River. At Hobas we will stay in luxurious accommodation, take a scenic drive and enjoy sundowners at the Canyon rim. The energetic amongst us may even climb down the 500m canyon wall to hike to the sulphur springs.

SOUTH AFRICA The end of our trip is nigh and, weather permitting, we will fly into Milan International Airport at Cape Town by night. This is a sight to behold with the Cape Peninsular bathed in street-lights and Table Mountain silhouetted in the background. We will overnight in a comfortable villa in the Cape Wine District. On our final day we will drive to the winelands and enjoy a farewell dinner before bidding you adieu. By now, we are sure that you too will have been afflicted with the magic of Africa ... oft termed, Mal d'Afrique.
